In late February 2021, I had the chance to tour John Chavis Memorial Park with Monteith Construction, the general contractor who is working on the park improvements for the City of Raleigh. The park will be reopened in a few months, and the project looks fantastic! Clearscapes is the architect. They also designed Marbles Kids Museum, Raleigh Union Station, and several other notable Raleigh icons.

Check out the bottom of the page for a video fly through as well!

Local art is incorporated throughout the new Community Center, such as the mural and exterior metal “fins” shown below.

Amenities on the interior include basketball courts, dance room, art room, and workout room (with an amazing view)!

On the exterior there is a gigantic playground and splash pad with stadium seating. With the splash pad (with water turned off) used as a seating area, the stadium seating area can be used/reversed to become an elevated stage!

The courtyard also has green storm water infrastructure to store and filter rain water as it falls.

The original carousel house is also being restored as a meeting room. Check out that ceiling!
